Social Impact
Iberoamerican Hackathon
October 20-22, 2022
Casa Firjan,
Rio de Janeiro
In partnership with:
Event description
The objective of this hackathon is to develop blockchain-based social impact solutions. Teams of developers, social impact experts, idea-generators and technical experts will design and build digital products, tools and apps geared at improving Social Impact issues in Iberoamerica. The region has huge potential for the development of unique cases of blockchain projects. ReFi, DeFi, NFTs and other solutions may be applied to overcome social and economic inequalities, promote Iberoamerican art and protect endangered ecosystems like the Amazon, Pantanal, Patagonia, Grand Chaco and the Atlantic Forest and Rainforests, among others.
The first day of the hack will focus on detecting the most pressing issues that need to be addressed. The coders will sit and discuss with social impact experts to debate and determine which of the issues they want to solve.
During the second and third day, the coders will code… while the rest of the team works on the different key aspects of the project; such as financing, marketing and, as importantly, ensuring that the solution is actually addressing the selected need. By working together, the team members will demonstrate their multifaceted strengths.
Finally, the jury will be composed of a selection of both developers and social impact experts, ensuring that the projects are both technologically viable and truly address a pressing issue.
NFT exhibition
During the three-days (October 20th-22nd), we will have a NFTs social impact exhibition using large monitors/TVs at Casa Firjan. Sponsors short videos will be exhibited intercalated with the NFTs,

Dev Trainings
Many of the participants are new to Web3! For the past weeks, we have been providing training to several coders, many of whom we met during our previous meet-ups (Web3 para T@dos in Morro dos Prazeres, Web in the university UFRRJ). We are very happy to have these new devs with us!
About us
Polygon is a leading blockchain that offers tools and functionalities for building, managing, and using decentralized applications (Dapps). The ultimate vision of Polygon is to create a self-sustaining marketplace of scalable, interoperable, and community-led projects.
Impact plus is a team of international development experts that seeks to expand accessibility and knowledge of blockchain technology among the continent. Impact plus believes local players with deep societal understanding are well-positioned to use this technology to build positive, viable, effective and sustainable solutions.
IberoAm is a non-profit and three-fold initiative aiming to identify, promote and then support iberoamerican blockchain/web3 projects with a clear social and/or financial impact for the region and always prioritizing minorities. We organize Conferences, Hackathons and NFT Exhibitions as a means to achieve those goals.
We have joined forces to structure activities and provide builders with resources to test social impact solutions on the Web3 network. In the last term, we have organized a series of activities in Brazil, Mexico, Kenya, Southafrica, Nigeria and Colombia bringing together developers and community members to introduce the benefits of blockchain technology and its different uses for social projects.
Ethical outlook
The hackathon’s goal is to provide solutions that lead to sustainable and transformative change in people’s lives. We will make a conscious effort to adopt approaches that take into account the social, cultural, legal and political differences of people. We aim to empower beneficiaries on various levels, including working with women-led businesses and NGOs that support grassroots social impact organizations.
